Protection of our aquatic ecosystems is necessary to preserve the abundance and biodiversity of marine biota, both fauna and flora in Australian waters. The Australian and New Zealand Environment Conservation Council (ANZECC) Guidelines provide a framework for assessing ambient water quality (such as marine waters) based on the chemical, physical and biological characteristics of a waterway. The ANZECC Guidelines include key ‘indicators’ and ‘trigger values’ to measure and assess any risk to desired environmental values. Differing levels of protection may be appropriate for different bodies of water and uses.
NMI provides a range of NATA-accredited testing services in marine water, sediment and marine biota. Click here for more information on the services we provide.
