NMI is one of the world’s top ten national metrology institutes in terms of its research (see side panel), capabilities (see side panel) and expertise. NMI also maintains a strong engagement with international and regional metrology organisations (see below), thereby underpinning international recognition of Australia’s measurement capabilities. This in turn is critical to the international competitiveness of Australian industry, Australia’s ability to attract international investment, and access by Australian business to global markets.
NMI actively supports the Australian Government’s activities in trade facilitation, and is addressing the removal of technical barriers to trade by participating in the global mutual recognition of measurement capabilities and by providing technical assistance to develop metrology in the Asia-Pacific.
